Wedding Bells Are Ringing

It’s that time of the year when birds are chirping, dogwoods are blooming and brides are out in full force. It seems like everyone’s getting married or knows someone getting married. It’s amazing how couples prepare for the wedding but not for the marriage. Now, my better half has always said to me “don’t give folks relationship advice because you are the worst in a relationship” and for the most part I never do unless it’s financial. I started counseling couples and it’s amazing how unequally yoked some folks are but they manage to love to pass the warning signs. Most couples have no idea what is on each other’s credit reports or bank accounts. While I understand that talking about finance can be off-putting it can save a lot of confusion in the long run.

Love does not last in this day and time when bills are late and creditors are calling. Folks are quick to walk down the aisle and just as quick to walk out the door. There will be plenty to argue and complain about over time, finances should not be one of them. Once a couple gets engaged they should have a genuine conversation about everyday finances, not just who is paying for what for the wedding.
